The author comments on the European Commission's next White Paper on transport policy to be published towards the end of 2010. According to Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, the White Paper will seek to develop an integrated European transport network for the development of individual transport modes. The Commissioner wants to encourage the environmentally-friendly and the most efficient modes, emphasising that transport must contribute to the economic competitiveness of the European Union.
