ABSTRACT
The author criticizes the way with which drafters of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) 5th edition are in disagreement over the manual's contents. He points out that the DSM is psychiatry's main accomplishment since it is the only standard against which mental normality is measured. He mentions the financial interests inherent in the making of the DSM and recommends that a new way of looking at mental health be developed, based on people's personal history and sense of self.
