ABSTRACT
The article presents the author's comments on various challenges being faced by small-to medium-sized businesses. He states that it is not melodramatic to say that presently, most small-to medium-sized businesses are engaged in a desperate battle for survival, and many are dying 'the death of a thousand cuts'. According to the author, business needs to be remodelled, and inevitably this implies that it should be transformed into a much smaller, leaner, operation focusing on fewer contracts.
