ABSTRACT
The author questions why mammography invitations in Great Britain emphasize only the benefits of breast cancer screening and make no mention of the possible harms. She criticizes a mammography invitation with the leaflet "Breast Screening: The Facts" which denies the uncertainties permeating a screening programme. She mentions the Cochrane Review of breast screening and its information leaflet which describe a very different situation to one indicated in "Breast Screening: The Facts." She also outlines the elements of arrogance in preventive medicine.
