ABSTRACT
The article presents the author's views on the "Quantum correction to Landau damping of electron plasma waves" study by Zhu and colleagues. The author mentions that the outcomes of the study are founded on doubtful starting point and generates doubtful answers. The author also argues that the introduction of Bohm potential with Vlasov equation has resulted into the contrasting permittivities for it is never warranted in physics.

A kinetic approach to Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) is proposed based on the Wigner–Moyal equation (WME). In the semiclassical limit, the WME reduces to the particle-number conservation equation. Two examples of applications are (i) a self-phase modulation of a BE condensate...

The question of whether the ‘‘Landau-fluid’’ description of wave-particle resonances [e.g., Hammett and Perkins, Phys. Rev. Lett. 64, 3019 (1990)] can describe nonlinear Landau damping is addressed. It is found that this model can provide an adequate description of the...

This paper shows how the concepts commonly used for a Debye plasma—Landau damping, collisional damping, short-range and long-range collisions, and plasma waves—must be revised to describe a nonideal electron-ion plasma. The degrees of freedom of a nonideal plasma are divided into...

It can be shown that whistler waves with low parallel phase velocity can be subject to strong cyclotron damping, even when the wave frequency is well below the cyclotron frequency. This resonance arises as a result of the Doppler effect which is proportional to the plasma density and increases...

Recent experiments during lower hybrid (LH) current drive on Tore Supra have indicated the existence of suprathermal electrons in the scrape-off layer (SOL) all the way from the LH grill mouth to the last closed flux surface (LCFS). This finding contradicts the prediction of a narrow, less than...
