ABSTRACT
The author discusses the importance of the use of English in communication systems. He mentions the investigators of the Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) who have the ability to process information at warp speed but speak in jargon. He cites a report stating that Lindsey Plummer of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue encourages people in public safety-communications systems to speak in layman's terms when they communicate with government officials to be understood.
