This section focuses on the trends in the use of social networks in the U.S. It is said that usage of social networks by Internet users age 18 to 29 has increased to 86% in 2011 and 66% of adult Internet users has social networking sites. Statistics on the top 20 social networking sites in the U.S. ranked by unique visitors in July 2012 and distribution of social network site users are provided. Noted is the use of social sites as a medium to engage customers and in advertising.
