This article provides literary criticism for works related to the Mexican diaspora to the United States in the 20th century, including "Los de abajo," by Mariano Azuela, "La casa ahorcado," by Luis Arturo Ramos, and "Las batallas en el desierto," by José Emilio Pacheco. It examines the use of drink in these novels, which symbolizes various social expressions and aesthetic experiences of the characters, according to the author.
