This article examines poet William Carlos Williams. Several of Williams' works are examined including the prose collection "In the American Grain," and the poems "Patterson," and "The Sparrow." The author explores Williams' reputation among his contemporaries and literary influences and attempts to place his work within the American literary tradition.
