ABSTRACT
Discusses the ambivalence and complexity of the book "Children of the Ghetto," by Israel Zangwill which focused on the lives of nineteenth-century English Jews. Factors that contributed to the development of anxieties when using the Yiddish language; Occurrence of problems for Zangwill as an author in the representation of the Yiddish language in the novel; Significance of the concept of a women character in the novel to the commitment of Zangwill to Judaism.
