ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Parisian publishing house L'Harmattan. With regard to Africa, the members of L'Harmattan's editorial board have always been guided by an unequivocal support for the self-determination and ideological independence of third-world peoples. The publishing house has never wanted to become identified with a single ideological current or a particular political stance, even though it has always been regarded as a militant enterprise. Of the 1,830 books listed in L'Harmattan's 1990 catalogue, 1,513 had been published by the firm itself, and 317 were being advertised for other companies.
