ABSTRACT
In this article, author Ann Biersteker proposes to describe Gakaara wa Wanja&umacr's on-going struggle "to create a patriotic literature in the Gīkūyū language" by examining three of his post-independence fictional works in their historical and cultural contexts. Despite the number and diversity of his other fictional and non-fictional publications, the serialized adventures of Kiwaī wa-Nduuta constitute the bulk of Gakaara wa Wanjaū's works. They are published in "Gikuyu rui Mumbi Magazine."
