This article presents letters to the editor about environmental protection in the Western United States, published in the journal "High Country News." One letter appreciates the journal for in-depth journalism on natural environmental issues in the Western U.S. The writer of the letter says that the journal is spending money unwisely on color photographs when it could be better spent on content. He says that the journal should pay reporters like Paul Krza an additional $2,000 an issue for articles instead of using it for color photographs. Another letter states that a recent issue of the journal included a letter from Kathy Crooks suggesting that the sole appropriate topic for the paper is environmental news of the West. It adds that environmental issues will naturally play a big part of any publication that considers the Western U.S. its topic. The journal's editor states that the region's environment and public lands will continue to be at the heart of the journal.
