ABSTRACT
Whether Web services, the latest thing to hit the information technology market, can affect businesses is the main focus of this article. In basic terms, Web services describe the use of Internet technology to integrate various systems. Web services promise to diminish integration costs, which makes it more accessible for organizations to share slices of software functionality over the Internet, creating and enhancing business relationships. Careful planning is needed before embarking on a Web service project. There is a need to asses the level of interaction that a company needs to have with its customers, suppliers and partners before linking with their systems. There is also a need to examine the current barriers that hinder the flow of the information at present.
