ABSTRACT
The article discusses the reason why endoscopic ablative therapies (ET) should serve as a first line treatment for patients with Barrett's esophagus (BE) and high-grade dysplasia (HGD). It was noted that the efficacy of various endoscopic treatments for BE with dysplasia has been shown by several research and case series. It states the occurrence of complications and failures in ET as the medical tools and techniques changed. The author stresses the need for surgeons to educate patients about ET before esophagectomy.
