ABSTRACT
An interview with Dr. Gerhard Schmidt, chief technical officer at Ford Motor Co., is presented. He says that guiding the company in the right technology direction is what takes most of his time on a day-to-day basis. He emphasizes that his company has been able to keep clear focus despite the many technologies coming through and the conflicting legislative demands due for having a very talented group of people. He stresses that half of his organisations is dedicated to sustainability issues.
