ABSTRACT
This article presents an interview with Phillip Hoose, author of "Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice." Hoose won the National Book Award for his novel that tells the true story of a teenager who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama nine months before Rosa Parks did the same. Hoose describes how he discovered Colvin's story and how he tracked her down to write his book.
