An interview with 2006 World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) president Rubens Belfort Jr. is presented. When asked about why WOC is an important ophthalmological event, he says that it is because the international ophthalmology community has problems that regional and national congresses do not discuss which are tackled in WOC. Belfort believes that he has learned a lot from the 2006 meeting including thinking globally and acting locally. He comments on the Congress held in São Paulo, Brazil.
