This article presents an interview with James Truchard, president of National Instruments Corp. in Great Britain. When asked about the effects of personal computer (PC) technology on changing the role of design engineers, he commented that PC technology has created a big cost/performance advantage for the users. He suggested that both hardware and software capabilities are equally important for his firm. He says that the convergence of test and design is constructive for an IT firm.
