ABSTRACT
The article presents an interview with James Hewison, the Executive Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). When asked about the 2004 festival, he comments on the different types of contemporary cinema and the MIFF's educational programs for filmmakers. Hewison talks about the popularity of the festival in the press and how that effects his influence in international film markets. He expresses his excitement over Chinese filmmaker Fruit Chan.
