ABSTRACT
Presents an interview with William E. Cummins, the director of the AP1000 Project of Westinghouse Electric Co. who is responsible for the licensing and commercialization of the AP1000 plant. Efforts made to shorten the construction schedule by implementing modular systems or by reducing on-site and tailor made equipment construction; Efforts made in the advanced reactor to reduce the cost and to make the new plant more attractive to investors; Passive safety systems included in the design to make the advanced reactor safer and user-friendly.
