ABSTRACT
The article presents interviews with John Windolph, vice president of marketing and corporate communications at Iridium LLC. Windolph helped shape the marketing program from the outset while holding a ground-level view of the company's development. His background in crisis communications has been a useful asset in a helter-skelter environment. Windolph was sanguine about One Rate recently as he discussed the company's development and direction with Marketing Management. Before joining Iridium, Windolph was a public relations officer with Hill and Knowlton in Washington D.C. working for corporate and government clients. One of his last projects before joining Iridium involved counseling the Saudi royal family and the Kuwaiti government on the ground during the Gulf War. He holds a degree in communications arts and English from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. According to him the company calculates the total market at 42 million customers. It breaks down to 4.2 million who are interested in the satellite communications capability.
