The article presents an interview with the first class of Certified Financial Planning (CFP) conferees who graduated in October 1973, namely, Ruthe Gomez, Ben Coombs and Graydon Calder. Gomez became interested in the CFP conference because of his desire to learn about investing, while Coombs just followed his father into the business. Coombs started charging $25 for a plan and Gomez was paid by commissions. Calder thinks that life planning should not be separate from the notion of money therapy for families. INSET: Making the Grades.
