Industry Overview
This article presents an overview of the condition of the manufacturing and mining industries in the U.S. for the third quarter of 2005. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused damages to nondurable product manufacturing facilities. However, it is expected that manufacturing activity will expand 3.4% in 2005 versus 3.9% in the second-quarter forecast. Meanwhile, industrial sector activity slowed during the first half of 2005.
