ABSTRACT
The article reports that the machinery and equipment industry in the U.S. is recovering. In the face of rising final demand, surging corporate profits, pressure to adopt new technology and modernize capacity, and attractive new equipment prices and interest rates, long-delayed capital spending programs of the U.S. are being allowed to proceed. The "bonus depreciation" provisions of the 2001 and 2003 tax bills, scheduled to expire at the end of 2004, are also having a positive impact on spending programs.
