Industry Profile
Industry Overview
This article presents an overview of construction machinery and equipments industry in the U.S., as of January 1, 2004. Looking ahead, domestic demand for construction machinery should gain additional ground over the next few years, as new home construction remains at lofty levels and nonresidential and public construction finally turns the corner. The rebound expected in surface mining activity will provide additional support. Imports have been gaining share in the U.S. market over the past two years, despite the strong dollar. Exports of excavating, paving, and construction machinery rose 6.1% last year, to $5.29 billion, reversing a two-year 16.0% slide.
