ABSTRACT
This article presents information on industrial quarterly review of the U.S. machinery and equipment industries for the year 2003. Construction machinery more than held its own in 2003, and should gain further ground in 2004-05. Housing is expected to drift down from recent lofty levels, but there is no real correction in the offing for new home construction. Producers of metalworking machinery have not had a good year since 1997, and last year was another rough one. Shipments of turbines, generators, and other power transmission equipment fell by double digits in 2003.
