ABSTRACT
This article presents an overview of the U.S. manufacturing and mining industry, as of July 1, 2003. The details of the July 2003 production report provide insights as to which sectors are leading the recovery and which industries have consistently remained strong. Producers of highend and housing-related consumer goods such as appliances, furniture, carpeting, and consumer electronics have enjoyed strong demand in response to a healthy housing market and low interest rates. Even though July's overall industrial production figures were encouraging, it is almost too late to manage any significant growth numbers for the whole year.
