ABSTRACT
This article presents information regarding quarterly review of paper and packaging industry in the U.S. Containerboard demand has continued to remain weak into the second quarter of 2003. Weakness in manufacturing, even after the war in Iraq has ended, has lead little interest in new orders. The latest purchasing managers' index in April indicated that the manufacturing sector remained negative for the second consecutive month. Even though 2002 ended in a disappointment and the first half of 2003 is struggling, containerboard demand will slowly improve during the summer and accelerate in the fall. Manufacturing output fell 4.1% and 0.9% in 2001 and 2002, respectively.
