U.S. Industry Quarterly Review: Paper & Packaging;2003 1st Quarter, p43
Industry Profile
Industry Overview
The article presents a quarterly review of U.S. industries in the sector of paper and packaging. Manufacturers of paper and products saw 2002 as a year of disappointment. After over two years of weak demand and falling prices anticipation was high that the worst of the difficult market conditions were over. The goal of mergers is typically to expand market share and reduce costs, but in the last two year, the trend has been a case of trying to survive. As with many other industries, such as steel and chemicals, the paper and packaging industry has become international.
