The article presents statistics indicating the performance history and expected performance of paper industry. The gross operating profit (GOP) for the year 1995 was 45.9 billion dollars. The GOP for the year 1996 was 39.3 billion dollars. GOP for the first quarter of 2002 was 33.7 billion dollars and the GOP for the second quarter of 2002 was 34.4 billion dollars. The GOP for the third quarter of 2002 was 35.4 billion dollars and the GOP for the fourth quarter of 2002 was 36.3 billion dollars. The GOP for the year 1997 was 39.7 billion dollars.
