ABSTRACT
An essay is presented on the American constitution. It is said that the U.S. has a problem because constitutionalism as a theoretical doctrine is no longer meaningful in its politics. A constitution is said to be meaningful only if its principles are understood to be permanent and unchangeable. A written constitution should have a rational or theoretical ground that distinguishes it from government.
