Teaching Transgender Issues through Documentary and Southern Comfort

An essay is presented which explores the transgender issues through Kate Davis' 2011 documentary "Southern Comfort." The author addresses the political act of defining key terms important to the issue. The author provides of consideration of transgender stereotypes and suggest the possibilities of documentaries to correct the stereotypes. The author discusses the background of the documentary, its production and reception in providing a foundation for some themes emerging from the documentary.
