ABSTRACT
An essay is presented that describes the characteristic of legal theory and why it warrants a separate naming. The authors outline the discourses about law, including law as craft, sociohistorical analysis of law and law and policy. They also examine the interrelationship between legal discourses. A discussion on the added value of legal theory is provided as well as why the concept deserves a separate naming.
