ABSTRACT
An essay is presented concerning the influence of the royal courts of María of Aragon, Isabel of Portugal and Isabel of Castile in the historical development of the genre of sentimental fiction. The author discusses the genesis of this genre and considers the role of the 16th century courts and their support for progressive ideas and novel literary works.
