ABSTRACT
An essay exploring the reasons why the German intellectual and Greek scholar Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff chose to sign the manifesto in support of Germany's actions in World War I "An die Kulturwelt!" is presented. The author discusses his dispute with philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche to illustrate his tenacity and unapologetic attitude. The essay explores WIlamowitz's actions during World War I and discusses the comments he made in regards to the war and Germany's participation.
