Gustave Moreau and the Reinvention of History Painting

An essay is presented on the painter Gustave Moreau and his work. It discusses his work with history painting and examines the narrative genre of painting in general. The painting "The Death of Nessus" by Élie Delaunay is examined and Moreau's paintings explored in the essay include "The Suitors," "Oedipus and the Sphinx," and "The Young Man and Death."
