ABSTRACT
The article presents an essay by Jon Christensen which tackle the issue of using compromise over political debates regarding protection of wildlife sanctuaries in the U.S. The author made reference to the late Howard Zahniser, the author of the Wilderness Act, in light of the debate over the preservation of the White Cloud Mountains in Idaho. Environmentalists and politicians alike invoke on the values and political ideology of the late Zahniser in advancing their arguments. The author says that the points raised by both parties are a clear reflection of the reality that the messy politics of democracy and compromise will and forever be a part of wilderness protection.
