ABSTRACT
The authors reflect on the phylogenetics of HIV virus concerning its evolution and spread as of January 2014. Topics discussed include phenotypic characteristics of the HIV virus, sequencing of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) gene, and cohort analyses of HIV-1–infected individuals. Also mentioned are topics such as a study published within the issue by J.O. Wertheim and colleagues on the use of a network to study HIV-1 transmission dynamics and ways to prevent transmission of the virus.
