ABSTRACT
The author discusses research that is presented within the current issue of the periodical regarding three lines of evidence for aldosterone-induced osteopontin (OPN) expression in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). He comments on the findings of the research as affinity of aldosterone for mineralocorticoid receptors (MR) is in the mid-to-high picomolar range. He infers that aldosterone is the responsible pathophysiologic actor in vivo.
