The author reflects on the proposed plan of the U.S. government to enact fuel economy standards on medium and heavy trucks. He cites that somehow truck and engine manufacturers were able to meet the standard announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, which they are able to achieve without sacrificing the ability of the industry to add truck bodies and equipment. He cites that while the diesel exhaust regulations in 2010 might not affected the industry, the looming fuel economy might.
