ABSTRACT
The article presents author's views on the use of force in psychiatric care, globally and in India. As stated, coercion refers to involuntary admission and treatment of the patient with mental illness, which sometimes in India is extended to surreptitious methods of cure. Clinical, legal and ethical challenges associated with coercion, are also discussed.
