ABSTRACT
The author discusses the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program he initiated in 2009. He traces the development of the scheme which carried an amendment to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act in 2007 and gave the legal foundation for the advancement of an all-inclusive risk management program for drugs. Since its implementation, over 200 branded products have been asked to institute at least one of the strategies stated in the program.
