Detection of microbial DNAemia: does it matter for sepsis management?

The author reflects on the detection of microbial DNAemia in sepsis management. It says that sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and it can be arisen from bacteremia and pneumonia. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) allows rapid detection and identification of pathogenic agents causing DNAemia. The author also cites a study which confirms the moderate concordance between multiplex PCR and blood cultures and provide further evidence for the potential clinical relevance of microbial DNA detection.
