The author emphasizes that the blackout that occurred in midtown Manhattan, New York City in the summer of 1977 did not affect the production of the July 16 to 23 issue of the periodical "America" He relates how the production was managed efficiently. He points out that the blackout exposed all the embarrassing contradictions of the modern city. He notes that the vulnerability of the society rises as sophisticated technology increases.
