ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the possible and desirable coexistence of loyalty and dissent in the Catholic Church. He emphasizes that loyalty and dissent are dimensions of involvement in the dynamism of the Catholic Church. He states that the danger in the dialectic of loyalty and dissent is ideology, which creates compliance and blind obedience out of loyalty. Likewise, he notes that the dialectic of loyalty and dissent is essential to the vitality of faith and the growth of the Catholic Church.
