The author ponders on the role of dietitians in military and public health service in the U.S. He relates his experience preparing his speech for the Uniformed Dietitians Symposium. He addresses the growing importance of a dietitian's role in everyday foodservice operations and menu planning. He comments on the rise of obesity and nutrition-related problems in the country.
