ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the significance of light emitting diodes (LED) on digital light processor (DLP) high-definition television (HDTV) applications. He evaluates the DLP Discovery Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) from Texas Instruments Inc.'s and the Phatlight LEDs from Luminus Devices; and, the impact of these devices on Samsung's 50-inches HLT5089S display. He also stresses that DLP technology has dominated projection systems, including home theater environments and movie theaters.
