ABSTRACT
The author reflects on several trends in retail trade in Great Britain based on surveys. One survey found that almost three quarters of shoppers will leave a store abruptly and without bothering to make a purchase if they feel the queues are too long. Other issues that annoy a consumer are out-of-stock products, constantly changing store layouts and poor customer service. He notes the appeal of shopping on local high street and visiting traditional butchers, bakers and greengrocers to consumers.
