The author comments on use of itopride in treating functional dyspepsia (FD). Itopride is a benzamide derivative that inhibits dopamine D2 receptor and acetylcholinesterase. The results of itopride appear to be negative in patients that fulfilled the selection criteria for FD that does not allow patients to have heartburn more than once a week. Frequency of heartburn is used as an entry criterion in a study design strategy. Itopride phase trials are also discussed.
